Edmonton Energy head coach Paul Sir was especially excited on Thursday about the recent signings of point guard Will Funn and swingman Michael Tabb.
Funn, 27, led the NCAA in assists in the 2004-05 season when he played for Portland State.

"I saw him when he was at Portland State and I said, ’That’s the guy I want,’ " Sir said of Funn. "I had the chance to sign this really flashy point guard and, in his first two IBL games, he had 42 and 37 (points).

"I don’t want that. I want a guy who makes players better, and Will does that."

A close friend of Funn, Tabb boasts a well-rounded hoops resume. The 27-year-old has played for three IBL teams and has played professionally in Japan, Argentina and Mexico.

"Will and Michael are huge (acquisitions) for us," Sir said.

Sir added that the team is two to three players away from being complete.
The team also announced that William Broadus is on the team’s roster, having shown well in a two-week tryout with the club after initially impressing at the team’s open tryout.

The Energy begins its season next weekend in Los Angeles against the Lightning. They tip off at home on May 15 against the Bellingham Slam at the MacEwan Centre for Sport and Wellness.
